Aloysius "Alois" John Heim, 89, of Newburgh, Ind., passed away Sunday, February 23, 2014, at Hamilton Pointe in Newburgh. He was born July 11, 1924, in Ireland, Ind., to Joseph and Ottilia (Kunkel) Heim. He married Marcella (Lechner) in 1949 and moved to Newburgh in 1952. Aloysius was enlisted in the United States Army during World War II. He served in the South Pacific and was stationed in the Philippines. He retired from Alcoa in 1989 after 23 years in the finishing department and was a member of local 104. Aloysius was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1584 in Jasper. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 57 years, Marcella D. "Sally" Heim in 2007; 3 brothers, George, Leo, Arnold Heim, 1 sister, Lorenna Nash. Aloysius is survived by his 4 sons, Steven Heim (Sylvia) of Newburgh, Jerry Heim of Ann Arbor, MI, Eugene Heim of Clarkston, MI, Michael Heim (Carmen) of Newburgh; grandchildren, Austin Heim (Chrissy), Courtney Metzger (Heath), Beverly Hotopp (Matt), David Heim, Jordan Heim, Jamie Stahly (Mike); great-grandchildren, Ethan and Luke Heim, Parker, Evelyn and Cooper Hotopp and Gwendolyn Stahly, as well as many nieces, nephews, godchildren, friends and neighbors. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Mary his homecare provider, Hamilton Pointe Health and Rehab staff, Gentiva Hospice in his final days, and especially to the people in the Assisted Living Memory Care Unit of Hamilton Pointe where he was treated as family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, March 1, 2014, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 625 Frame Rd., Newburgh, IN 47630 officiated by Fr. Attila Frohlich, Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m., Friday, February 28, 2014, at Titzer Family Funeral Homes, Simpson Chapel, 510 W.
