Arnold W. Geiselman, 92, of Elberfeld, Ind., passed away, Friday, October
5, 2012, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital. He was born, January 8, 1920,
in Elberfeld, Ind., to Adolph and Minnie (Bawel) Geiselman. He attended
Elberfeld School. Arnold married Hazel (Harmon) Geiselman, April 12,
1941, and she survives.
He served in the U.S. Army as a Mess Sergeant during WWII in the 303rd
Infantry which was in the Pacific Ocean when the Atomic bombs were
dropped.
Arnold was co-owner with his brother at Geiselman Welding Shop in
Elberfeld and was co-inventor of the Jiffy-Lift unloader and also many other
items found throughout the Tri-State, especially the Treehouse enjoyed by
the children in Arnie and Hazel's backyard.
He was a life member of Zion UCC where he served as council president
several times and was the historian for the church cemetery and summer
social ice cream man and fried chicken man. Arnie belonged to Elberfeld
American Legion and was the main Veteran's Day Breakfast cook. He
also belonged to the Ft. Branch VFW. He was an Explore Boy Scout
Leader where he took many scouts on trips, campouts, and many World
Fairs.
Hazel and Arnie wintered in Tavares, Florida, where he grew and shipped
his own oranges and grapefruits to numerous friends and family for free.
He and Hazel loved to travel, they took many trips overseas to South
America, Australia, Alaska, Hawaii, Africa, France, and as recent as 2001
to China.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Arthur Geiselman;
sisters, Esther Walker and Ruth Osha.
Arnie was survived by his wife of 71 years, Hazel Harmon Geiselman;
sisters, Elnora Ingram of Boonville, Evelyn France of McCutchanville; and
several nieces, nephews, cousins, and very special friends.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Deaconess Gateway
and staff.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Monday, October 8, 2012, at Zion
UCC, 2nd and Elm Streets, Elberfeld, Ind., Rev. Steve Oeth officiating, and
burial to follow at the church cemetery, where the American Legion will
conduct military rites along with his fellow fireman serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday, at Titzer Family Funeral
Homes, Volkman Chapel, 2nd and Elm Streets, Elberfeld, Ind. (812) 983-
4211. Additional visitation will be 10 a.m. to service time at church on
Monday.
