Bernadette "Bernie" Schmidt Bernadette "Bernie" Schmidt, 82, of Evansville, passed away, Friday, March 30, 2012 at Deaconess Hospice Care Center. She was born February 11, 1930 in Newburgh to George and Clara (Brumley) Schmidt. Bernie worked for General Tire for 36 years. In 1970 she opened and operated Al's Bar with her lifelong companion, Al. She was preceded in death by Al Montgomery; her parents; three brothers, Leo, Bernard "Pete", and Eddie. Bernie is survived by her dog, Lacie, whom she loved dearly; three brothers, Maurice "Johnny" and Robert of Newburgh, Joe of Ohio; sister, Mary of Newburgh; nieces, Diane of Georgia and Barbara of Newburgh; nephews, Keith, Joey, and Tony of Newburgh; several other nieces and nephews. A special thanks for her caregivers, Brenda Sallee and Dannie Shelton for their help through the years and to nurse, Lisa at Deaconess Hospice. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Vanderburgh County Humane Society. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 625 Frame Rd. Newburgh, Ind. Reverend Joseph Ziliak and Reverend Jay Davidson will concelebrate. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday, April 2, 2012 at Titzer Family Funeral Homes ~ Meyer Chapel, 100 E. Columbia St. Evansville, Ind. Additional visitation will be held Tuesday morning, 9 a.m. to service time at the church. Condolences may be made @titzerfuneralhomes.com.
