Betty Hurt, 87, passed away Saturday July 19, 2014 at Transcendent Health North in Boonville, IN. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and Oakhill Baptist Church.
Mom was born July 23, 1926, the fifth of ten children to Julius and Mary (Butler) Schnelle. Mom married Calvin Hurt and gave birth to ten children. Mom was the "Best". She was loved by all that knew her. She was Mom, Grandma, Aunt Betty, or Mrs. Hurt. She had a great sense of humor, had to with 10 kids, and never let one of them get the better of her. Loved her grandkids and always wished she could do more for them and felt bad when she couldn't. Loved to play Clabber, Canasta and Rummy. She never backed down from a water fight , even started some. And, oh the food she could cook, chicken and dumplings, chocolate, pecan and cocoanut pies and fried chicken. If mom could make it and you wanted it, ask and it was yours. Of course there are some who didn't have to ask, you know who you are. Anyone ever needed anything and she had it or could get it, it was theirs, no questions.
Mom worked at the Pie Pan as the cook and had worked at the Windmill Restaurant.
Mom has gone on to be with Daddy, her oldest son, Randy and oldest daughter, Anita. She is survived by her sons, Herschel Hurt of Chandler, Kenny, Joel, Charlie, and Mark Hurt of Evansville, Roger Hurt of Newburgh; daughters, Patty Summers of Chandler and Hazel Montgomery of Evansville; sister, Ruby Pribble of Newburgh; twenty grandchildren, thirty-four great-grandchildren, with one on the way and one great-great grandchild.
Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday July 22, 2014 at Titzer Family Funeral Homes ~ Meyer Chapel, 100 E. Columbia St. Evansville, IN. Sympathy wishes may be made at www.titzerfuneralhomes.com.
