Beverly Childs, 78, of Newburgh, Ind., passed away, Friday, June 12, 2015 at the Charlier Hospice Center at Deaconess VNA Plus, after courageously fighting an illness for three years.
She was born December 18, 1936, in Evansville, Indiana to the late William Cavis and Anna Muriel Cavis Haynes.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 56 years, Leslie Childs, Jr. of Newburgh, daughters Tammy Hammonds and Patti Redman (Eric) of Newburgh, Julie Williams (Bruce) of Crestwood, KY and Michelle Myers (Tim) of Cincinnati, OH, and 12 grandchildren that adored their Nana: Lesley Schmaltz (Chris) , Apryl and Sean Higgins; Ryan, Alex, and Mark Williams; Alyssa, Abby, and Kara Redman; Daniel, Sam, and Anna Myers.
Beverly graduated from Reitz High School in 1954. After high school she worked at Meade Johnson until 1960 when she devoted her time and talents full-time to raise her family. After her four daughters were born, she attended Evansville School of Nursing and completed her degree. This was a proud accomplishment for her and her family.
Les and Beverly met at Ray’s Skating Rink in Chandler in December 1955. He still remembers the first time he saw her skating in the southwest corner of the rink and was mesmerized knowing she was the one for him. He immediately loved her quiet, gentle nature. They honored each other and their vows for 56 years.
She enjoyed their winters in sunny Bull Head City, AZ for 22 years.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Charlier Hospice Center at Deaconess VNA Plus, 610 E. Walnut St. Evansville, Ind. 47713
