Charlotte (Lottie) Swift Calhoun, 84, of Newburgh, Ind., passed away, Wednesday, October 16, 2014, at St. Mary's Medical Center. She was born in Owensboro, KY on June 15, 1930 to the late Tommie E. (Henning) and Hudson R. Swift.
She was married to her beloved husband of 63 years, Julian E. Calhoun who passed away on October 5, 2014. Charlotte was a resident of Owensboro, KY, Evansville, Clarksville, Ind., Oakland City, and Newburgh. She was a member of St. Johns Church of Newburgh and a former member of Blessed Sacrament church in Oakland City, serving on the church council, teaching religious education for 26 years, was a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the Bishop Simon Brute society. She was a member of Right to Life, World Day of Prayer Committee, the church Woman's Club, City Research Club and Gibson County Food Pantry.
She worked at the O'Leary law offices, retiring in 1988.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Thomas Swift; sister, Dora Burdett; son, Tony Calhoun; son-in-law, Robert Rice; and several nephews. Charlotte is survived by son, Charles H. Calhoun (Terri); daughter, Julie Rice; son, Jeffrey D. Calhoun; daughter, Mary Snoddy (Bill); daughter, Robin L. Knight (Howard); nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m., Monday, October 20, 2014, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 625 Frame Rd., Newburgh, Ind. Burial will be 2 p.m., in Montgomery Cemetery in Oakland City.
