Deloris Hungate Pike, 91, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 22, 2013, at Deaconess Hospital. She was born February 15, 1922, in Newburgh, Ind., to John and Lennis Pruden. She married Robert Hungate August 23, 1940. He died in 1972. She married Alexander Pike July 12, 1976. She was a member of the Newburgh Church of the Nazarene and attended Good Shepherd Assembly of God in Evansville.
Deloris was a kind, caring, and compassionate wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was a woman of great faith and exhibited Godly character. She was a faithful servant of the Lord. Known for her wit and good humor, Deloris often told jokes and wrote poetry. She worked at Wesselman’s Café and Bethel Temple.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her first husband Rev. Robert Hungate, who served as pastor at the Chandler Church of the Nazarene for 17 years. Prior to taking the pastorate, they traveled in evangelistic work and as singers all over the United States for 15 years. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Marsha Coley in 1996; her granddaughter, Brittany; and her second husband, Alexander Pike in 1996.
She is survived by a daughter Rita K. (Kenny) Hartz.; brothers, John “Hubert” (Nancy) Pruden, Jack (Sharon) Pruden; a sister, Lillie (Frank) Wilhite; grandchildren, Robert (Gloria) Cummings and Brandi (Tommy) Jamison, Renae McGaha and Kim Willet; great-grandchildren, Shayna Coley, Ryan Carter, Brennon Owens, Summer Maffucci, Rebekah, Natalie, and Carrington Cummings, Lexi France, Hannah and Tommy Jamison, and Kendra Kramer; great-great-grandchildren, Makayla, Madison, and Morgan Carter, Lily Bishop, Adam Brendel, Gracie Owens; step-children, Jerry (Marilyn) Pike, Robert (Pam) Pike, Tony (Martha) Pike, Linda Pike, Barbara (Jay) Dillingham; and step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, October 26, 2013, at Titzer Family Funeral Homes, Simpson Chapel, 510 W. Jennings St., Newburgh, Ind., (812) 853-8314. Rev. Glen Pfohl will officiate. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, and 9 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the funeral home.
