Dolores L. Allen of Newburgh, Ind.
Dolores L. Allen, 91, passed away, Friday, March 1, 2013, at Deaconess
Hospital. She was born October 7, 1921, in Newburgh, to Roy and Victoria
Gardner.
Dolores graduated from Newburgh High School in 1939; she then went on
to graduate from St. Mary's School of Nursing. Dolores married her
husband, Glenn Allen, and then moved to the Homeplace farm in 1946.
She started volunteering for the American Red Cross during WWII and
continued for over 60 years. Dolores had a long and successful nursing
career, retiring from International Steel Corporation; and then the Warrick
County School Corporation where she was a school nurse for 21 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Roy Gardner, and
Robert Gardner.
Dolores is survived by her husband of 67 years, Glenn Allen; son, Ray Allen
(Jann); daughter, Mary Lou Heisler (David); grandson, Neal Allen (Jenny);
granddaughter, Jessica Arlinghaus (Nick); great-grandchildren, Ben,
Caleb, Leah, Taylor; and brother, Charles "Charlie" Gardner (Jewell).
A funeral service will be held 10 a.m., Monday, March 4, 2013, at Epworth
United Methodist Church, 4455 Epworth Rd, Newburgh, Rev. William
Rasch will officiate and burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. Friends
may visit 2 to 7 p.m., Sunday, March 3, 2013, at Titzer Family Funeral
Homes, Simpson Chapel, 510 W Jennings St, Newburgh, Ind., (812) 853-
8314. Additional visitation will be held 9 a.m. to service time Monday at the
church.
