Donald Carrol Appler

Visitation: 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesday at our Miller & Miller Colonial Chapel. A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m., conducted by the Knights of St. John, St. Joseph Commandery #306 followed by a rosary service. Additional visitation will be 10 a.m. to Mass time Thursday at the church.

Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m., Thursday at All Saints Parish, St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery

Donald Carrol Appler, 92, of Evansville, Ind., beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great grandfather, passed away January 6, 2017, in Evansville, IN.  He was born August 1, 1924, to Henry Appler and Elise (Lorenz) Appler.

Don graduated from Retiz Memorial High School in 1942, he served in the Merchant Marines during World War II.  He worked at Sterling Brewery for 43 and 1/2 years as a power house engineer; Don was a life-long member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and a member of the Knights of St. John, St. Joseph Commandery #306 where he held several offices. 

Don married Mary Margaret Summers on August 24, 1946 at St. Joseph Catholic Church and they celebrated 70 years of marriage in 2016

He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Wilma Ritchey, Herbert Appler, Clare Buchheit, Estelle Decker, Madaliene Sellers, Mary Spalding, Dorothy Clark.

Don is survived by his wife, Mary Margaret Appler of Evansville; children, Donna Crompton of Springfield, IL, Cheryl Fruits of Gastonia, NC, Randall (Darlene), Mark (Sandy), Chris (Martha) all of Evansville, Scott (Richard) of Clarksville, TN; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, January 12, 2017, at All Saints Parish, St. Joseph Catholic Church, 618 E. Virginia St., Evansville, Ind.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be  4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesday at Titzer Family Funeral Homes, Miller & Miller Colonial Chapel, 100 E. Columbia St., Evansville, Ind., (812) 424-9274.  A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m., conducted by the Knights of St. John, St. Joseph Commandery #306 followed by a rosary service.   Additional visitation will be 10 a.m. to Mass time Thursday at the church.
