Donald “Don” Simpson, 89, of Newburgh, IN passed away Saturday, December 8, 2018 at his home in Newburgh. He was born July 31, 1929 in Tennyson, IN to the late C. Revis and Lyda (Kelly) Simpson. He was a Navy veteran who served during the Korean War. Don worked for 28 years at Whirlpool in Evansville and sold hearing aids throughout Southwestern Indiana from 1969 until 2015. At the time of his retirement from his hearing aid business, he was the oldest hearing aid salesman in Indiana. He served on the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Cemetery Board in Newburgh for 44 years and was an active member of the parish. He was also a Simon Bruté Award Honoree for the Diocese of Evansville in 1998. A hard-working dedicated husband, dad, grandpa, and great grandpa, he was a tireless and enthusiastic supporter of all his family’s extra-curricular activities and sports. He also enjoyed traveling, fishing, splitting firewood, and playing cards with his card club that met monthly for 50 years. Don is survived by his wife of 68 years, Helen; daughter Vicki (Steven) Bohleber of Evansville; son Steven (Cindy) Simpson of Newburgh; daughter Theresa (Stephen) Doyle of Evansville, grandchildren Kristina Groves; Vanessa Simpson; Megan, Adam, and Kendra Blankenberger; and great-grandson Daniel Groves. He was known as Bawpa to Megan, Adam, and Kendra, as well as countless “grandchildren” on sports teams all over Evansville. Don was preceded in death by his parents and 8 siblings. A special thank you to all the caregivers for their 18 months of tireless service. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 625 Frame Rd., Newburgh, IN. Entombment will be at St. John the Baptist Mausoleum. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday at Titzer Family Funeral Homes, Simpson Chapel, 510 W. Jennings St., Newburgh, IN (812) 853-8314.
