Doris Stephens, 95, died Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at Cypress Grove Rehabilitation Center. Doris was born in Evansville, Indiana, March 14, 1918, to John Morgan Gordon and Hattie (Dempsey) Gordon. She was a graduate of Bosse High School. She and the love of her life, Bertis L. Stephens, made their home in Evansville until moving to Owensboro, Kentucky in 1959. In Evansville, Doris worked in the office at DeJong's Dept. Store. After moving to Owensboro, she worked for Hoosier Oil Co., then the Daviess County Public Library, from which she retired. After retirement, she was a faithful volunteer at Owensboro Healthpark Golden Partners. After Bert's death in 1980, she continued living in their Owensboro home until moving to Newburgh in 2003. Doris's life is exemplified in the words "She had a true servant's heart". So loved by all who knew her, her kind, loving, generous spirit will live on within everyone whose life she touched. A lively sense of humor and sharp wit complemented her lovely personality. Also surviving is her cousin, Ann Stephens, who was like a sister to her, and nieces and nephews whom she loved very much. Besides her parents and her beloved husband, she was preceded in death by her dear brother, Ralph E. Gordon. To Dr. Jerry Best, Need-A-Nurse, Cypress Grove and Vista Care Hospice, our family wishes to thank each person who so lovingly cared for Doris during her illness.
