Duane Edwin Erwin, 78, of Elberfeld passed away on Saturday, October 23rd at Deaconess Gateway Hospital. Duane was born on December 20th, 1942 to the late Noble and Myrtle Erwin of Lynnville.
Duane graduated from Lynnville High School, then went on the attend Barber School. He served our country in the United States Army in 1967 oversees in Vietnam. Duane retired from Alcoa after 30+ years. He was a member of the Elberfeld American Legion Post #351 and the VFW Post # 2710, Elberfeld Volunteer Fire Department, Campbell Township Conservation Club, Lynnville Masonic Lodge #396, and a founding member of the Erie Canal Beagle Club. Duane was very active in his community while serving on various boards and committees over the years.
Duane was always up for a big breakfast and coffee on the porch, He enjoyed farming, watching Nascar racing, story-telling, and a good game of clabber.
Duane never missed a ballgame his grandkids were playing in or their school events. He lived by 2 rules: (1) He was always right. (2) Refer back to #1.
Duane is survived by his wife of 49 years, Brenda. Children: Sherry (Mark) Taber, Mark (Gail) Erwin, Michael (Tammy) Erwin, Kari (Scott) Zella, Nicole (Lonnie) Ziliak, 12 grandchildren; Aaron, Joshua, Jacob, Samantha, Stephanie, Dalton, Nicole, Kaci, Jaci, Graci, Kyler, and Brylee, 12 great-grandchildren, sister, Judy (Charles A.) Engelhardt, and several, nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Wednesday, October 27th, 2021 at Titzer Family Funeral Homes, Volkman Chapel, 2nd & Elm St. Elberfeld, IN (812)983-4211. A Masonic service will be held at 6:30 pm. at the funeral home.
A funeral service will be held at 11:30 am. Thursday, October 28, 2021 at the Elberfeld Fire Department, 25 NE. Front St. PO Box 341 Elberfeld, IN 47613 with visitation beginning at 10:00 am. until service time. Burial will follow at Tabor Cemetery.
