Dwight Leroy Rounder

Of Newburgh IN

On Sunday, March 14, 2021, the world lost a beautiful soul and giant to his family, friends and community.  Dwight Leroy Rounder, 71, of Newburgh, Indiana, passed away peacefully from this Earth at St. Vincent Hospital-Evansville, surrounded by his family at his side.  He was born on February 1, 1950 in Evansville, Indiana to the late Katherine (Bradley) and Leroy Rounder.

Dwight graduated from Harrison High School in 1968, where he and his orange bread truck were well-known on the Evansville social scene.  After graduating high school, Dwight dutifully served our country in the United States Marine Corp, during which time he attended Woodstock.  On September 23, 1972, he married his high school sweetheart, Bonnie Lou (McMasters) Rounder in Evansville, Indiana.  Dwight loved his time as a law enforcement officer with the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Department, and his family will forever treasure his many colorful stories of this time serving on the force.  Following his time with the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Department, he owned a commercial construction and development business, and later became involved in real estate with Given & Spindler until his retirement in 2016.

Dwight loved his family, his friends, good wine, his Eagles and, above all, watching his kids and grandkids sports activities.  He was a phenomenal cook, who loved to serve his family and friends, especially Sunday night dinners with his children and now grand children.  He loved to hunt and golf. He never met a stranger, and never forgot a face.  Anywhere he went there was a friend to be found.

Later in life, Dwight grew in his faith.  He worshiped at St. John the Baptist in Newburgh, Indiana, and was baptized in 2012.  Dwight made his Cursillo weekend (#84) in the fall of 2015.

Dwight is survived by his wife, Bonnie, of 48 years; mother-in-law Louise McMasters; daughter Ashley Niehaus (Mike), son Chad Rounder (Hattie), and daughter Lindsey Bingham (Brad).  Grandchildren; Zeke, Zoe, Xavier, Xander, Azalea, Rose, Terez, Leza, Imma, Kolbe, Ike and Luke Niehaus; Lucy Belle, Sterling, and Tilden Rounder; Ella and Silas Melchiors, Warrick, Mara, and Cate Bingham.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 AM Thursday, March 18, 2021 at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 625 Frame Rd., Newburgh IN. 47630 with entombment to follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at the Titzer Family Funeral Homes, Simpson Chapel, 510 W. Jennings St., Newburgh IN. 47630. (812) 853-8314, and additional visitation will begin on Thursday at the church at 9 AM.
