Edward P. Bohlmann, 79, of Elberfeld, IN, passed away peacefully Friday, December
9, 2011 at his home.
Born August 15, 1932 in rural Onarga, IL, to Martin and Gertrude (Weiss) Bohlmann.
In 1956, Ed married Sue Turmail, his loving wife of nearly 55 years, who survives.
Also surviving are four children: David (Joyce) of Granger, IN, Jonathan (Carolyn) of
Apex, NC, Nathan (Janell) of Zionsville, IN, and Martha Kloeck (Michael) of Evansville.
Ed was the proud grandfather of eleven grandchildren (Stephen, deceased, John,
Jimmy, Michelle, Chrissy, Anna, Andrew, Wes, Tyler, Madison, and Samantha) and
one great-grandchild (Maverick). He loved his family very much. Ed grew up on a
farm and came from a large family of 14: 9 brothers (7 surviving) and 5 sisters (4
surviving). Ed graduated from Milford, IL High School and in 1955 from Concordia
Teachers College, River Forest, IL with a BS in Education.
Ed taught elementary school at Trinity Lutheran School, Vallonia, IN from 1955
to 1961. In 1961, he began his career in the grocery and the food distributor
business, specializing in the meat industry. He worked in various groceries in
Jackson, County, IN and in Clarksville, IN before becoming assistant manager in
1974, and eventual meat director, at Creasey Co., in Evansville. In 1985, he became
meat manager at Meny's in Haubstadt before retiring in 1994.
Ed had a strong Christian faith and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran
Church in Evansville. He was thankful for all God's blessings and was a faithful
servant of the Lord, as Sunday School teacher, choir director, and as a church officer.
He also used his God-given talents in art and music, creating nearly 500 works of art,
mostly paintings on canvas and saw blades that are enjoyed by family and friends
today as well as playing piano for many to enjoy. Music was always a part of Ed's life,
especially country and gospel.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at
Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1925 Volkman Rd. Evansville, IN 47725. All are welcome
to stay for lunch at the church immediately following the service. There will be no
visitation and the burial will be private.
In lieu of live flowers, silk flower arrangements or memorial contributions may
be sent to Immanuel Lutheran Church, indicating that the contribution is for the
Edward Bohlmann Memorial Fund.
