Elmer (Red) August Heisler of Newburgh, Ind.
Elmer (Red) August Heisler, 86, passed away Wednesday, August 21,
2013, at St. Mary's Medical Center. He was born to Elmer John and Luella
Cecilia (Lack) Heisler on August 23, 1926. Red grew up in Cincinnati,
Ohio and graduated from Central Vocational High School. He met and
married the love of his life, Betty Jean Grace. Red served his country in the
Army and was stationed in Germany during World War II. He was
honorably discharged and through the GI Bill attended trade school and
began working at The Whirlpool Corporation. He worked at Whirlpool in
Cincinnati, Ohio; Marion, Ohio and Evansville, Indiana for 26 years, retiring
as Director of Quality Control in 1983. Together, they raised 5 sons and 1
daughter. He and Betty made their home in Newburgh, Indiana where they
were members of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. They enjoyed
traveling throughout Mexico, Europe, Australia and Africa. Red was a
member of Rolling Hills Country Club where he was an avid golfer. In
January of 1990, Betty was called home to be with the Lord. He later
married Donna Given and they were married for 7 years. Donna was also
called home to be with the Lord. Red rekindled his friendship and loved a
very dear friend, Mary Jean Herrmann. They would have been married for
13 years on August 26, 2013. Red and Jean were lifetime Cincinnati Reds
fans and never missed a game, be it in person at the ballpark or on TV.
They also enjoyed their faith in the Lord, traveling and visiting with their
extended families.
Surviving is his wife, Mary Jean Heisler; sons: Doug (Jenny); Don (Kathy);
Darrel (Becky); David (Mary); a daughter, Dianne Chapman (Mark) and a
sister, Jean Johnson. He had 8 grandchildren: Erica (Mark) Nelson;
Amanda (Kevin) Herrmann; Aaron (Susan) Heisler; Benjamin (Aki) Heisler;
Nicole (Andy) Domazos; Travis (Mallory) Morgan; Joshua (Heather)
Heisler; and Justin (Ashley) Morgan. He also had 8 great-grandchildren:
Blake, Grant, Meredith, Molly, Owen, Samuel, Evelyn and Reid. He had
several nieces, nephews and stepchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Vernon, and a son
Dennis.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m., Monday, August 26, 2013,
at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 625 Frame Rd., Newburgh, Ind.,
Father Tom Kessler will officiate and burial will follow at St. John's
Cemetery.
Friends may visit from 2-7 p.m., Sunday, August 25 at Titzer Funeral Home,
Simpson Chapel, 510 W. Jennings St., Newburgh. Additional visitation will
be 9 a.m., until Mass time Monday at the church.
