Gertrude Ann Lant, 96, of Newburgh, IN, passed away Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Newburgh Healthcare. She was born September 6, 1922 in Warrick County to the late Marion Daniel and Lillian Elizabeth (Schulz) Vanada.

Gertrude graduated from Yankeetown High School and attended Purdue University for a year before graduating from Evansville College and the Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing RN program. She worked for Dr. Ralph Zwickel at his office in Newburgh and assisted in many home births.

Gertrude married Robert P. Lant on May 3, 1947. After starting a family she became a full-time homemaker, pouring love into her family, home and friends.  Through the years she was active in her church (Newburgh Presbyterian Church) and several organizations, including the Stevenson Homemakers, Eastern Star, Bible studies, history club, sewing club and craft club.

Gertrude had an exceptional gift for creating. She enjoyed making various sewing projects and crafts. She often said God gave her the ideas, then she donated her creations back to her church and family. Some of her fondest memories were helping with the bazaars at her church and craft shows.

Gertrude was always known for her sweet spirit and kind heart. All who knew her, loved her. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 59 yrs, Robert P. Lant; brothers, George A. Vanada; and Chester S. Vanada, and granddaughter Holly Williamson.

Gertrude is survived by her 4 children: sons Richard Lant (Lisa), Thomas Lant (Terry) and Mark Lant, daughter Susanne Williamson (Rick), grandchildren Allison Cavins (Paul), Thad Wilgus (Tammy), Pleasant Dike (Keith), Chelsea England (Ryan), Jordan O'Brien (Clark), Chase Lant (Kourtney), Michel Macer (Shawn), Joshua Macer, Joseph Macer and Scott Williamson, great-grandchildren: Lant Cavins, Marie Cavins, Mercedez Wilgus, Paisley Dike, Petula Dike, Abram England, Emmet England, Cinch O'Brien, Tuff O'Brien, Stetson O'Brien and Pearl Lant. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

Many thanks to Heritage Hospice, Dr. Kent McKinney and the staff of Newburgh Healthcare for the excellent care and love she received.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m., with visitation beginning at 9 a.m., Thursday, November 8, 2018 at Newburgh Presbyterian Church, 642 French Island Trail, Newburgh, IN, Pastor Stephen Gutridge will officiate and burial will follow in Bates Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, at Titzer Family Funeral Homes, Simpson Chapel, 510 W.
