James Elmer Allen, Jr., 83, of Newburgh, IN, passed away Wednesday, January 11,
2012 at Woodlands Golden Living Center. He was born January 27, 1928 in
Newburgh to Frieda Katherine (Betz) and James Elmer Allen, Sr.
He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in Newburgh. He was a United
States WWII Army Veteran and a life member of VFW Post 3418, in Boonville and a
past member of the Newburgh Volunteer Fire Department. In 1952 Mr. Allen
graduated from Evansville College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering
(BSIE). For 20 years he worked with International Steel Company. He later worked
18 years with the Daughters of Charity Provincial Headquarters in Evansville, retiring
in 1992.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Edna M. (McKain) Allen, 1990;
son, Christopher Allen; daughter-in-law, Ida Mae Allen; brother, Louis A. Allen and
sister, Martha L. Grimm.
He is survived by three sons, Jeffrey K. Allen, Patrick L. Allen (Ria), and William B.
Allen (Mary); seven grandchildren, Brooke E. Althaus (Jason), Cassie M. Allen
(Brock), Dena M. Allen, Kristina E. (Yates) McDowell (William), Justin A. Yates, Eric
M. Yates, Brooke E. Schisler; three great-grandchildren, Riley, Hayden, and Emme
Althaus; brother, Eugene B. Allen; several nieces and nephews; and special friend,
Marjorie Mackey.
The family would like to thank Dr. Sudheer Gurram, Woodlands Golden Living Center
and St. Mary's Medical Center for their kindness and compassionate care.
Services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, January 16, 2012 at Titzer Family Funeral
Homes ~ Simpson Chapel, 510 W. Jennings St. Newburgh, IN. Reverend Dan
Kennedy will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery with military graveside
rites conducted by VFW Post 3418. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday,
January 15, 2012 and on Monday morning 9 a.m. to time of service at the funeral
home.

the Hadi Shrine Hospital Transportation Fund.
