Newburgh, IN - Jean A. Davis, 91 of Newburgh, Indiana passed away Wednesday December 18, 2019 at Hamilton Point Health and Rehab Center. She was born April 7, 1928 to the late Areal and Addie Pearce of Newburgh who ran Pearce’s Grocery for many years in Newburgh.  She graduated from Newburgh High School in 1946 and attended Lockyear Business College in Evansville where she met and later married her husband Len Davis in January of 1949.

 

Jean initially worked for Newburgh State Bank as bookkeeper and later at Pearce’s Grocery. As the family grew, Jean served as Cub Scout den mother, Girl Scout leader and Newburgh Elementary School PTO president. As the kids grew, Jean worked in the School cafeteria and drove a school bus. She was a member of the Newburgh Park Board helping to build the Newburgh swimming pool, a member of the Newburgh Library Board and President of the Rose Hill Cemetery Board. She was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ in Newburgh since 1949. She was an avid crafter and jewelry maker and loved to visit flea markets although her primary focus was always the family.

 

She is survived by her husband, Len Davis (her husband of nearly 72 years); Sons, Jeffrey (Lynne) Davis and Larry (Ronda) Davis and Daughter, Lori (Keith) Otzmann. She was the grandmother to Sarah (Brian) Wilzbacher, Whitney (Andrew) Curran, Andrew (Christine) Davis, Adrah Davis, Ryan Otzmann and Kadi Otzmann. She was the great grandmother to Addie and Lorelai Wilzbacher and Hadley, Luke, and Benjamin Curran.

 

There will be a celebration of life memorial service at Zion United Church of Christ in Newburgh on Saturday, January 4 at 2:00 pm
