Jean Louise Hedge Goelzhauser
Jean Louise Hedge Goelzhauser, 91, of Newburgh, passed away Thursday, November 14, 2019 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home. She was born in Evansville on August 27, 1928 to Dr. Harry C. Johnson and Louise (Andres) Johnson.
She graduated from Memorial High School in 1946 and attended Maryville College in St. Louis, MO. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church since 1961. She was a lifetime member and past president of St. Mary’s Auxiliary, member of Turners Ladies Club, 2 Bridge Clubs, Newburgh Women’s Club, Past President of Newburgh Youth Foundation, and a recipient of the St. Anne Medal for Catholic Girl Scouting.
Jean loved to play Bridge, and enjoyed crocheting, knitting and needlepoint, and watching IU basketball and the St. Louis Cardinals.
In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her 1st. husband, Bill Hedge; 2nd. husband, Leo (Gus) Goelzhauser; son, Bobby Hedge; daughter, Diane Bernhardt; sister, Janet Johnson. She is survived by four daughters, Mimi Scheessele (Damien), Louise Hauert (Bob), Lisa Popham (Joe), Christine Hasler (Dennis); four sons, Bill Hedge (Kathy), Tim Goelzhauser (Connie), Tom Goelzhauser (Sabrina), Mike Goelzhauser (Kate); 26 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Jean’s family wishes to express their sincerest gratitude to the staff at Good Samaritan Nursing Home for her years of care and treating her like family.
Memorial contributions may be made to Memorial High School.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Friday November 22, 2019 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 625 Frame Rd. Newburgh, IN. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Evansville, IN. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday with a memorial service at 7 p.m. at Titzer Family Funeral Homes ~ Simpson Chapel, 510 W. Jennings St. Newburgh, IN (812) 853-8314. Additional visitation will be Friday 9 a.m. to mass time at the church.
