Joan Ann (Lauer) Porter Joan Ann (Lauer) Porter, 66 of Newburgh passed away Saturday, June 6, 2009 at VNA Charlier Center in Evansville. She was born January 19, 1943 in Indianapolis to Theodore (Tates) & Hettie (Dauby) Lauer. Joan graduated from Tell City High School in 1961 and went on to graduate from the Patricia Stevens Modeling College in 1963. She was the young Republican Chairman of Perry County from 1963-64. She formerly was a real estate agent for Century 21, Don Lee Realty. Later in life, at the age of 48, Joan returned to college at USI majoring in Communications and minoring in Journalism graduating in 1997. She was an avid artist and gardener, receiving her Master Gardener Certification. She was a 30 year member of the American Legion Kapperman Post 44, Ladies Auxiliary in Newburgh. Joan was a loving wife, mother and nana. She was preceded in death by her parents. Joan is survived by her husband of 46 years, Pat Porter, daughters, Shannon (Chuck) Backer and Shawna (Jimmy) Horne, all of Newburgh, grandchildren, Marissa, Nikki, and CJ Backer, Jocelyn and Sophia Horne, sister, Carol (Kenny) Hammack, Tell City, brother, John (Sandy) Lauer, PA., and many other relatives and friends. A funeral service will be held at 10 AM., Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at the Titzer Family Funeral Homes, Simpson Chapel, 510 W. Jennings St. Newburgh IN. 47630, (812) 853-8314 with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will from 2 to 8 PM., Monday and from 9 AM., Tuesday until time of service at the Titzer Family Funeral Homes, Simpson Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to VNA Hospice.
