JoAnn Pierce, 76, of Evansville, passed away Tuesday, July 21,
2009 at St. Mary's Hospital.
She was born in Tell City, Indiana on November 5, 1932, just five
years before the great flood. Her family moved to Evansville in 1944 during
the war years. JoAnn attended Delaware and graduated from Central High
School where she excelled in journalism becoming the editor of the
Centralian.
Her working years started at Camp Breckenridge and she went on
to work 25 years in accounts payable at Whirlpool Corporation. Married in
1955 to Paul C. Pierce, and the couple never had a day without seeing each
other during their 53 years together.
JoAnn was dedicated to serving others first and always showed a
helpful, joyful spirit. Her unconditional love and kindness were apparent to all
who met her, especially evident as she faithfully cared for her husband. This
same loving kindness extended to beloved pets throughout the years.
JoAnn was a member of Washington Avenue Baptist Church since
1954 and she daily lived out God's love.
She is survived by her only sister, Wanda Lee Duncan (Jerry) and
beloved niece, Angela Lee Duncan, many other friends, especially in the
neighborhood and several special nieces, nephews, and family members of
her husband Paul, who died in 2008.
Funeral services for JoAnn will be 7 p.m., Thursday, July 23, 2009,
at Titzer Family Funeral Homes ~ Meyer Chapel, 100 E. Columbia St.,
Evansville, Indiana (812) 424-9288, Rev. James Frazier will officiate. There
will also be a graveside service at 10 a.m., Friday, July 24, 2009 at Sunset
Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
at the funeral home.
