Joe Williams Woods, 83, of Evansville passed away on Thursday, October 30, 2009, at Parkview Care Center. Joe was born January 31, 1926 in Lincoln City, Ind. to the late Mary (Staten) and Clarence Woods. He graduated from Dale High School in Dale, Ind. in 1943. He was an Army Veteran of WW II and a member of Dale American Legion Post 444 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1114. Joe worked for the L&N and CSX Railroads for 45 years and retired in 1988. Joe was also a member of the Hadi Shrine Temple and the Gentryville Masonic Lodge # 424. Joe enjoyed UE basketball, gardening, hunting and fishing. Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Krietemeyer Woods in 1996; a sister, Helen Hevron and two brothers, John and George. Surviving are a son, Ronald W., grandchildren, Angela Dunham and her husband Paul, DeAnna Bennett and her husband Kevin, and Joey and his wife Amy and eight great-grandchildren, all of Evansville. Joe is also survived by three sisters, Thelma Medcalf and her husband Ted of New Baden, Ill., Florence Smith and her husband Victor of Boonville, IN and Dalia Sue Bracken and her husband Ted of Tulsa, OK. Joe also leaves many nephews and nieces and their families. The family would like to thank the staff at Parkview Nursing Home for their kind and compassionate care of Joe. Services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, November 2, 2009 at Titzer Family Funeral Homes ~ Meyer Chapel, 100 E. Columbia St. Evansville, IN, with burial in Old Pigeon Cemetery at Lincoln City, Ind. Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., Sunday, November 1, 2009, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Old Pigeon Cemetery in care of James Hevron 5388 Rosalie Court, Newburgh, IN 47630. Condolences may be made to the family at www.titzerfuneralhomes.com.
