Joel A. Schaefer, Newburgh
Joel A. Schaefer passed away on December 14, 2012 at home. He had
COPD. He will be cremated. There will be no funeral or visitation. We will
have a gathering sometime in the future to spread his ashes and
appreciate his life while on this earth.
We always talked about the fact that if I died first, then I wanted to sit in a
nice vase on the fireplace mantle so if you got a girl friend she would have
to dust me.
He was not a flower man; he liked to give me jewelry instead. He was such
a good speller, and faster than spell-check. I will miss that. He loved history
and always thought it was important to know a person's full name. He was a
frugal man but very thoughtful. He always had a fair and unbiased opinion of
others. He loved bargains and coupon shopping and was excellent at it.
Thanks, Joel, I have enough toilet paper, paper towels, and shampoo to last
me a lifetime (would rather have you)... Joel liked to recycle, reuse, and
repurpose... Well those shoes you bought on sale with a coupon a few
years back that you have-not worn yet, well I will put the box to good use. I
know you will appreciate that. I know you already have them up there
clipping coupons and watching for sales. Go for it. You took such good care
of us. You are my rock and we will miss you.
Joel graduated from Benjamin Bosse High School in 1961. He earned an
Evansville College Bachelor Degree in 1966 and received a Business
Administration Degree from the University of Evansville in 1975. He loved
crunching numbers. He was a sergeant in the United States Army with
active service till 1970. He loved Germany and the food and beer. Joel
spoke highly of all the people he worked with throughout his years at the
Post Office in Evansville.
He is survived by his wife, Jennifer; sons, Jesse and John; daughter- in-law,
Van and two grandchildren, Ethan and Adam and one on the way; brother,
Dave and wife Judy; and many nieces, nephews and other family members.
Just think of the history you are learning about now!!
Contributions may be made silently, if you wish, to a charity. His favorites
were U of E., Rescue Mission or Habitat. That would make him smile.
