John Lawrence Mcelroy

John Lawrence McElroy, 79, of Newburgh, formerly of Evansville, passed away Saturday, October 31, 2009, at his residence. He was born on January 28, 1930, in Evansville to Lawrence J. and Lorene (Bockelman) McElroy. He attended Columbia Grade School and graduated from Central High School. John served in the United States Army with the 61st Engineers from 1951 to 1953. John retired from Sears after 35 years as Receiving Manager, after retiring he worked at Walmart for 10 years as Receiving Manager. He volunteered at Conrad Baker Foundation and the Salvation Army. John belonged to Bethel Temple Church, Tuesday AM Prayer Garden, shut-in ministries and other services at Bethel Temple. He also was a member of the American Legion and loved to collect antiques. John never feared sharing God's word and never met a stranger. Mr. McElroy is survived by his wife of 52 years, Faye McElroy; children, Desiree and Duane Luecke, Brenda and Benny DeTalente, foster daughter, Sherry Woodruff, Daniel Ray Moore; sisters, Gloria Sullivan, Sharon McElroy, Lou Welborn; four grandchildren, Josh and Taylor, Kayla, Neal, Nolan; one great-grandchild, Lilly; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thanks to VNA Hospice. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 4, 2009, at the Titzer Family Funeral Homes, Simpson Chapel, 510 W. Jennings St., Newburgh, IN 47630, (812) 853-8314, officiated by the Rev. David Schwambach, burial in Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 3, 2009, at the Titzer Family Funeral Homes, Simpson Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of John L.
