Larry Sterling Neighbors, 68, of Evansville, passed away Monday, November
16, 2009 at Good Samaritan Home. Larry was born at home, in Evansville,
the firstborn child to Sterling Britt and Nannetta (Huebner) Neighbors. Three
siblings followed: Phyllis, Thelma, and Richard.
He attended White Elementary School and Reitz High School in Evansville.
Larry received his GED in 1970 and also served in the Air Force. He worked
in Evansville for several years before moving to Florida where he worked
security for Bush Gardens in Tampa, FL and other security assignments. He
also worked as a supervisor for Winn Dixie and in pest control.
Larry had seven daughters and loved them and his grandchildren very much.
On April 20, 1991, he married Shannon Dunbar, his wife of 18 years. He
embraced his second family, Gayle and Harold, Mike and Maryann, and their
children and thought of them as his own.
Larry was a member of St. Benedict's Cathedral and a member of the CRHP
team and church choir. He was an active member of the East Side Lion's
Club. He participated in league bowling for a number of years. He also
tutored English as a second language.
Many will remember Larry for the unique watercolor paintings he gave as
gifts. He also loved to cook and enjoyed fishing. He was a good Christian
who loved his wife, Shannon, very much. Larry and Shannon especially had
fun kidding around and teasing each other. Larry was friendly and, after a
hug, always had a peppermint candy for family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Pam Neighbors.
