Leola Roberts Leola Selma Halwes Roberts, 89 of Evansville, long time resident of Elberfeld, passed away, Monday, August 17, 2009, at Charlier Hospice Center. She was born November 10, 1919, and married Clenneth Roberts on July 3, 1943. Leola was a homemaker who loved to read, garden, and sew. She enjoyed sports and especially watching her grandchildren's teams. Leola was a lifetime member of Zion United Church of Christ, Elberfeld, and a Woman's Guild member. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Clenneth, in 2006; sister, Norma Madden; brother, Ralph Halwes; and parents, August and Ida Engelhardt Halwes. Leola is survived by her son, Don Roberts and wife, Cindy; daughter, Jo Ann Harris and husband, Joe; grandchildren, Stephen Roberts and wife Karen, Shelli Cathcart and husband Kevin; Brad Harris and wife, Stacey; and three great-grandchildren, Brayden and Bryce Harris and Judd Cathcart; a sister- in-law, Doris Halwes; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Leola's Home Instead caregivers, the staffs of St. Mary's Medical Center, Charlier Hospice Center, and especially Pat Tilton, family friend, for tender and loving care for their mother. Graveside services will be 12:30 p.m., Friday, August 21, 2009 at Elberfeld Zion United Church of Christ Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Zion United Church of Christ New Building Fund, PO Box 157, Elberfeld, Indiana 47613.
