Lester James Cox, 85, of Newburgh, Ind., passed away Thursday, January 21, 2016 at his daughter’s home in Newburgh. He was born in Evansville on July 11, 1930 to Essie (Carnahan) and Earl Cox. He graduated from Bosse High School in 1948. He was a United States Navy Veteran. Lester retired from SIGECO after 42 ½ years as plant supervisor at the Culley Power Plant. He was a member of the Newburgh Masonic Lodge, past member of Newburgh Volunteer Fire Department, and a past Ohio Township Precinct Committeeman.
Lester loved boating on the river. He and his best friend, Dick Beaven, took several boating trips, two of which consisted of boating down the rivers from Evansville to Corpus Christi, Texas, another, they followed the Tennessee River.
Lester is survived by his wife of 64 years, Velma Jean (Trover) Cox; son, Greg; daughter, Lisa Loehr (Fred); grandchildren, Shannon Loehr and her fiancé, Harry Wainwright, Isaac Loehr and Thomas Loehr; his twin sister, Esther Burkhart, and brother, Herbert Cox (Joyce); several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Ira Cox, Vanna Zimmerman, and Earl Cox, Jr.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, January 25, 2016 at Titzer Family Funeral Homes ~ Simpson Chapel, 510 W. Jennings St. Newburgh, IN (812) 853-8314. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Sunday, January 24, 2016, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Additional visitation will be held Monday, 12 noon until service time.
