Mary Agnes (Gardner) TenBarge, 87, of
Evansville, passed away, Thursday,
February 5, 2009 at St. Mary's Medical
Center with her husband, Bill, and
her four daughters at her side.
On September 26, 1921, in Loogootee,
Indiana, Mary was born, one of six
children, to Charles Martin and Sarah Clara
(Tuell) Gardner. When Mary was
5 years old her family moved to Evansville.
She graduated from Memorial High School
with the class of 1939. Mary was a
sales clerk for the Evansville Store for 17
years, retiring in 1984. She
was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic
Church since 1952 and was a member of
the Altar Society, The Senior Club, The
Bereavement Club and served on the
Summer Social Committees. When she
was 16 years old, Mary joined the
Knight's of St. John, now St. Rita's Auxiliary
#228 and was a member of the
Auxiliary Uniform Club. She enjoyed playing
Bridge, traveling and going to
the gym. Mary loved her family and enjoyed
making dumplings and divinity
for them.
She is preceded in death by her parents;
brothers, Paul and Bill Gardner;
sister, Helena Weber; and step-mother,
Emma Gardner.
Mary is survived by her husband of 61
years, William R. "Bill" TenBarge;
four daughters, Carolyn Sue Putnam (Mike)
of Evansville, Alice Marie
Jenkins (Ron) of Evansville, Bette Fay Dick
(Lou) of Ocean Springs,
Mississippi, Darlene Mary Linberg (Tony) of
Evansville; two sisters, Anna
Louise Eble of Evansville, Sister Catherine
Gardner, O.S.B. of Beech Grove,
Indiana, and step-sister, Joyce Jeude of
Evansville; sister-in-law, Verona
Jean Clark of Evansville; eight
grandchildren, Chris Jenkins, Mark Jenkins,
Stacy Gries, Leslie Gasser, Nick Brune,
Todd Moore, Bernie Dick, Jr., and
Becky Wages; ten great-grandchildren;
many nieces, nephews and friends.
Services will begin at 9:30 a.m., Monday,
February 9, 2009 at Titzer Family
Funeral Homes ~ Miller & Miller Colonial
Chapel, 100 E. Columbia St.
Evansville, Indiana continuing at 10 a.m.
with A Mass of Christian Burial
at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 1301 S.
Green River Rd. Evansville. Rev.
Fr. Bernard T. Etienne will officiate.
Entombment will be in St. Joseph
Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.,
Sunday, February 8, 2009
with St. Rita's Auxiliary prayer service at 4
p.m. followed by a parish
rosary service at Titzer Family Funeral
Homes ~ Miller & Miller Colonial
Chapel. Additional visitation will be held on
Monday, 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
at the funeral home.
