Mary Schwartz Sloan
Mary Schwartz Sloan, 95, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away Mother's Day,
May 10, 2009, at Select Specialty Hospital in Evansville.
Mary was born September 6, 1913 in Lafayette, Indiana. She graduated
from Jefferson High School, and then worked at Duncan Electric in Lafayette,
where she met her future husband, John E. Sloan. They married September
1, 1934 and were married sixty-two years before his passing in 1997. They
lived fifty years on Lake Freeman at Monticello, Indiana before moving to
Evansville in 1995.
Mary was a generous, selfless person who dedicated her life to the love and
care of her family, and they were always her first priority. She enjoyed
gardening and reading and spending many hours watching birds and wildlife
around her home. Her family and neighbors enjoyed many years of her home
cooking, and she was a skilled knitter, creating fine sweaters and afghans for
her family.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Don Waters of
Evansville; two step-grandchildren, five step-great-grandchildren, nieces and
a nephew. She will be greatly missed by her family and those who knew her.
The family would like to thank Dr. Richard Gries and his staff for their warm
and personal care over the years, and St. Mary's and Select Specialty
Hospital staffs for their kindness and compassion over the last month.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, May 14, 2009, at Titzer
Family Funeral Homes ~ Volkman Chapel, 2nd & Elm Streets Elberfeld,
Indiana, officiated by Reverend Rick Bender. Burial will be in Zion Cemetery.
