Minnie D. (Humphrey) Brown
Minnie D. (Humphrey) Brown, 81, of Evansville, Indiana passed away
Monday, February 16, 2009, at Golden Living Center Woodlands in
Newburgh, Indiana . She was born November 22, 1927, in McRoberts, KY,
to Oscar and Bernice (Cummings) Humphrey.
She attended Bosse High School. In the 50's while in Evansville, Minnie was
a member of Calvary Temple Assembly of God and signed for the Deaf
during worship services. In the 60's while living in Chandler, Minnie worked
part time as a secretary at Rolling Hills Country Club. She then lived in
Florida for a short time, returned to Chandler in the early 80's, and moved to
Spurgeon in their new home. Minnie was a member of the Assembly of God
Church in Petersburg, worked at the Bread of Life in Lynnville for 11 years
and was a member of the Republican Woman's Committee in Pike County
and also worked for 4 years at Oakland City College in the housekeeping
department. Then in 1996 she moved to Madisonville, KY and joined the
First Assembly of God Church where she was the secretary and volunteered
at the Door of Hope Pregnancy Crisis Center until her stroke in 2004. She
then moved back to Evansville, to live with her daughter and son-in-law and
attended the Church of the Cross.
Minnie was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Bernice (Hester)
Humphrey, a baby brother, two sisters, Joyce Brumett in 2004, Ginger
Kepley in 2008, and her husband, James H. Brown in 1995.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Carol Jean and Greg Betz of
Evansville and a son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Debi Brown of Merom,
IN, two granddaughters, Melanie and Racheal Brown, and five great
grandchildren, Brooklyn, Olivia, Mia, Mikala, and Issiah, three aunts, Ella
Haddon, Peggy Skeels, both of Evansville, and Ida Ray of Colorado.
A special thanks to Sue Davis and Diana Henrich for being Minnie's long
term caregivers and to the Woodlands staff for the special and loving care
they gave to Minnie during her short stay there.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, February 20, 2009 at The
Church of the Cross, 5401 E. Lloyd Expressway, Evansville. Reverend Tony
Yates will officiate and burial will follow in Park Lawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, February 19, 2009, at Titzer
Family Funeral Homes ~ Miller & Miller Colonial Chapel, 100 E. Columbia
St., Evansville, IN 47711, (812) 424-9274. Additional visitation will be Friday
9 a.m. to service time at the church.
