N. Elizabeth "Betty" Martin, 98, of Newburgh, Indiana, passed away at
12:05 a.m. Friday, March 8, 2013, at Angel River Nursing Home.
Betty was born Feb. 9, 1915, in Russellville, Kentucky, to Elzie B. Gregory
and Beulah Edna Lee Gregory. In her early life Betty spent many years as
a homemaker, was affiliated with the Boonville Main Street Methodist
Church, the Paradise Homemaker's Club and the Warrick County
Democratic Party. After her husband's death in 1965, her life's path
included a variety of work that encompassed being a skilled cook in
restaurants, at the Waycross Camp and Conference Center, Morgantown,
Indiana (a ministry division of the Episcopal Diocese of Indianapolis), and
for 8 years on the river barges owned by Mulzer Crushed Stone Inc. and the
Hines Furlong Lines. She had past affiliations with the Wheeler Mission
Girls Home and Lucille Raines Residence in Indianapolis, Indiana, as a
housemother and counselor. In her later years, Betty delighted in making
ceramics, nativity candles, crafts, family quilts and many crocheted and
knitted items for her family and friends.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Judge Warren W. Martin, and
children Judge Warren W. Martin, Jr., Dr. Presley Martin, Laura Mitchell,
Doris Martin and Phyllis Wilson. Survivors include her sister Judy
Baughman, Morgantown, IN, and her children, Walter Martin of Cadiz, KY;
Neville Martin of Searcy, AR; Stanley Martin of Elberfeld, IN; Stephen Martin
of Newburgh, IN; Sharon Malady of Gig Harbor, WA; Marlene Castro of
Hopkinsville, KY and Carole Reed of Loveland, CO. She is also survived
by 25 grandchildren and multiple great grandchildren and great great-
grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 14 at Titzer
Family Funeral Homes~ Simpson Chapel, 510 W. Jennings St. Newburgh,
Indiana, (812) 853-8314.
Visitation for family and friends will be on Wednesday, March 13 from 4 to
8 p.m. and will continue Thursday at 9:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will
follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Boonville, Indiana.
