Oscar William Highsmith, age 89, of Lynnville, formerly of Buckskin, Indiana, passed away Monday, August 18, 2008 at his residence. He was born January 28, 1919 in Evansville to George and Gladys (Flener) Highsmith. Oscar proudly served in the United States Army during WWII. He was retired from Arkla. He enjoyed bowling, gardening, and playing pool. He was a member of Noble's Chapel Church, as well as the American Legion and VFW. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Betty Kingsbury. Oscar is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marie (Lester) Highsmith; son, Kenneth Highsmith, (Cami) of Winslow, daughter, Sharon West, (David) of Lynnville; six grandchildren, five great- grandchildren; and brother, Robert Highsmith. The family would like to thank Vista Care Hospice and Amedisys Home Health. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, August 22, 2008 at Noble's Chapel Church with burial in the church cemetery. Pastor Steve Oeth will officiate. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Elberfeld American Legion. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, August 21, 2008 at Titzer Family Funeral Homes ~ Volkman Chapel, 2nd. & Elm Streets Elberfled, Indiana.
