Otis Lee Bingemer

Otis Lee "Bing" Bingemer of the Evansville Protestant Home, formerly of Newburgh, passed away on December 7, 2016 at the age of 95.  Otis was born on August 3, 1921 to the late Bertha Denton Bingemer and Albert Lee Bingemer in Cairo, KY.   In addition to his parents, Otis was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary "Ruth" of 50 years, brother, Charles D. Bingemer of Cairo, KY and son-in-law, Marc Warner.

Surviving Otis are his two daughters, Cheryl Bingemer of Newburgh, IN and Barbara Warner also of Newburgh; grandchildren, Kristi (Kerry) Koressel, Jeffrey Warner and Melissa (David) Nicholson; five great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren; and brother, Maurice "Fid" Bingemer of Henderson, KY.  Otis is also survived by loving nieces and nephews. 

Otis was a graduate of Lockyear Business School prior to his service in the U.S. Army in World War II where he served in the European Theatre during the latter part of the war.  He was honorably discharged as a Corporal.  After returning from World War II, he continued his job at International Steel in Evansville, IN where he worked for 42 years before retiring.  After retiring, he and Ruth moved to Spring Hill, Florida where they enjoyed their retired life for more than 20 years.  They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with many family and friends shortly before Ruth passed away.

After Ruth's passing, Otis moved back to Newburgh, Indiana to spend time with his family and was proud to give tours of the LST 325 in Evansville, volunteered to drive the St. Mary's courtesy shuttle, volunteered at his Church, American Baptist East, Volunteer Usher for Victory theater and Arts at the Center, and helped on a mission trip during the Katrina hurricane with his daughter Cheryl and his Church. God, Family, Country and Friends defined his life. Otis was very much a people person, never met a stranger and always had a great story to tell.  His hobbies included boating, fishing, music, multiple sports teams, water skiing, bowling, playing cards and hosting several infamous parties.

Otis had the wonderful honor of being selected to attend the Honor Flight in May of 2015 where he visited many memorial sites in Washington, D.C. 

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Monday, December 12, 2016, at  Titzer Family Funeral Home, Simpson Chapel, 510 W. Jennings, Newburgh, Indiana, (812) 853-8314, with Pastor Jeff Stratton officiating.  Friends may call from 1 to 4 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home.

The burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery, Monday with full military rites.
