Ramona Jean Saaré, age 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Friday, April 22, 2022, at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper, Indiana. Ramona was born to Dorothy Mae Watts and William Franklin Johnson in Sycamore, Alabama on Dec. 4, 1940. She was a head majorette at Munford High School and graduated in 1958. She married the love of her life, Harvey Lloyd Saaré Sr., on November 5, 1960. She and Lloyd moved to Owensboro, KY, where she worked as a surgical scrub nurse while raising a family and then eventually settled in Newburgh, IN, where Lloyd worked for Alcoa and Ramona was a work-at-home mom.
Affectionately referred to by many as “Mimi,” Ramona devoted her life to her family and her faith. She was a great seamstress, an excellent cook, and a master at phone sales. She was faithful to her Bible study and enjoyed filling shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child for many years. Known for her vibrant personality, she loved to share stories of her life, her children, her grandchildren, and great grandchildren and always dreamed of writing her life story in a book called Two Doors Down from Scrooge Alley, set in Sylacauga, AL. She loved to travel, sing, and dance, and will be remembered for her Southern comfort food, pecan pie muffins, and her two favorite songs, “Tan Shoes & Pink Shoelaces” and “You Are My Sunshine.” She loved people and had a passion for life that brought a smile to everyone she met.
Ramona is survived by four children: Mona Lisa Ruckriegel of Jasper, IN; Darr Shawn (Saaré) Ubelhor of Newburgh, IN; Harvey “Mike” Lloyd Saare Jr. of Leitchfield, KY; and Somer Dai Saare of Evansville, IN; 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, one sister, Karen K. (Rex) Jacobsma of Atascadero, CA; one brother, James F. Johnson of Owensboro, KY; and one sister-in-law, Sharon (Glenn) Watts of Hendersonville, TN.
