Richard Dwight Sinclair

Newburgh

Retired, Lt. Col. Richard Dwight Sinclair, PhD, 89, born December 19, 1934, in Bloomington, Indiana, passed away peacefully October 6, 2024 at his home in Newburgh, Indiana overlooking the Ohio River.

The youngest of 6 children and the only son born to David Dwight Sinclair and Edna May Williams, Richard (Dick) went to Bloomington High School where he was an honor student and VP of the Class of 1953. Dick loved and excelled at sports and was a Panther football Quarterback, basketball guard and baseball shortstop. His academic and sporting success led him to Evansville College on a football scholarship where he continued to play all three sports and was the second athlete to receive major letters in three sports.

He began his military career in college in the Air Force ROTC. After graduating in 1957 he married the love of his life, Angela Mary Sinclair (Tootie) and they moved to Los Angeles where Dick spent the next several years at USC, earning his PhD in Physiology. The next move was to Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane, Washington and then to Brooks Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas where he spent the next two decades working with NASA as a research aerospace physiologist, studying the effects of space flight on the human body.

After retiring in 1979, he loaded up the family in the station wagon and moved back to Southern Indiana. Dick joined his wife as a creative entrepreneur and spent the next two decades lovingly working in their family business, Arbor Hill House.

In 2015, he married Linda Folz and they enjoyed many wonderful years together.

Dick will forever be remembered as a humble, kind, generous, loving and true gentleman. He loved creating, with an impeccable attention to detail. He was incredibly thoughtful and enjoyed sharing his gifts with others. His love for his grandchildren and sports had him beaming with pride and he rarely missed an event. His love for his family and friends was endless and he will live on in all who received his loving kindness.

Dick is preceded in death by his wife, Angie, their sons Dirk and Derik, second wife, Linda Folz and his sisters, Annamae, Irma Jean, Dorris, Lita, and Norma.

He is survived by his Daughter, Dakri Sinclair (Jim Herrell), grandchildren, Dustin and Brauly Sinclair, Maggie and Graden Herrell and great grandchildren, Daylon and Mayci Sinclair, stepsons, Andy Folz (Ashley) and Eric Folz (Jennifer) and 6 step grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held in Richard's honor on Friday, October 11, 2024 at 2 p.m at Titzer Family Funeral Homes Simpson Chapel, 510 W Jennings street, Newburgh Indiana, with full military rites performed by American Legion Kapperman Post 44 Honorguard. A visitation for Richard will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of service at 2 p.m. Richard's burial will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery, in Newburgh Indiana, directly after the funeral service.
