Robert H. Kase, 78, of Newburgh, IN, left on his final journey, a cosmic one, August 9,
20ll. He was born June 1, 1933, to Margarite and Harold Kase in Rochester, NY, with
wanderlust in his genes. He grew up in Lima, NY.
As soon as a driver's license was in hand, he began a lifetime love affair with the
open road transporting horses from downstate NY to Maine lumber camps. Then the
Adirondack mountains called & he answered by enrolling in NY State Ranger School
at Wanakena. After graduation Uncle Sam invited him to the Korean conflict but, his
mother prayed him to Germany where he served two years in the Army of Occupation
traveling the continent by jeep and train when off duty. Then it was off to Niagara
University and the opportunity to see eastern Canada between full time work and
study.
He began his professional life with Moore Business Forms, then went to graduate
school at IU. From there it was Metropolitan Life, Delco Remy, Producto Tool & Die,
and finally to Amp, Inc, where he worked in industrial sales and as market manager
for 31 years. The first four took him throughout PA, NY, and OH. AMP led to IN, PA,
and NM. At a seminar in the 90s he described his territory in the southwest as being
three miles deep and 1500 miles wide Once his colleagues in Mexico realized his
name in German meant cheese they dubbed him "Roberto Quesadilla" and he was
greeted as such from Matamores to Tijuana, con gusto. He thoroughly enjoyed the
people he met and the places he went.
His love for traveling took him and his wife, Dolores (Gocella) from British Columbia
to the Dutch West Indies, Nova Scotia to the tip of the Baja Peninsula and 40 states in
between. Europe called multiple times and they traveled there, delighted in its
diversity and, especially, in its people.
Bob served on the Newburgh Plan Board in the early 70s and was co-chair of the
third Newburgh Fest which he and Marcia Yockey "advertised" by careening through
town in a pickup. Bob drove while Marcia urged the townsfolk via bullhorn "Y'all come
on down to the riverfront, y'hear?" He gladly followed in his father's (NY) footsteps by
serving on the Ohio Township Library Board. Another close to his heart was Saint
John the Baptist's Cemetery Board.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, David.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Dolores, daughters, Kathryn Kase (Jeff
Cohen), Houston, TX, Michele (Greg) Merriman, Newburgh, IN, sons, Andrew (Kathy)
Kase and Matthew (Kristi) Kase , both of Evansville, IN, sister, Mary Alice Canaday,
Detroit, MI and brother, Richard Kase, Athens, PA, six grandchildren, two great-
grands, and multiple nieces and nephews.
Grateful thanks to Deaconess Gateway and Specialty Select Hospitals, and Charlier
