Robert W. Highsmith, 88, of Elberfeld, Ind., passed away, Sunday, July 11,
2010 at his residence. He was born, September 7, 1921 to George and
Gladys (Freudenburg) Highsmith. He was a WWII veteran serving with the
63rd. Infantry in Germany and a member of the VFW Post #1114 in
Evansville. Robert retired from the U. S. Postal Service after some 32 years
as a mail carrier. He was a member of Nobles Chapel United Methodist
Church.
Robert enjoyed fishing, gardening, and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Betty Kingsbury and
brother, Oscar Highsmith.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Wanna Faye (Herter) Highsmith;
daughters, Shirley Brinker of Evansville, Beverly Render (Warren) of
Evansville, and Diane Bilderback (Ron) of Ft. Branch, Ind.; 9 grandchildren,
21 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews
The family would like to thank Dr. Steven Barnett and the staff of Southern
Care Hospice for their kindness and loving care.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at
Nobles Chapel UMC in Elberfeld. Reverend Lisa Ressler will officiate.
Burial will be in Nobles Chapel Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be
conducted by the Vanderburgh County Retired Veterans Club.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at Titzer
Family Funeral Homes ~ Volkman Chapel, 2nd. & Elm Streets, Elberfeld,
Indiana and on Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. to service time at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Nobles Chapel UMC or Southern
Care Hospice.
