Robert P. Porter, 87, of Newburgh, IN, passed away Monday, September 30, 2024 peacefully at Heart-to-Heart Hospice House in Evansville. Robert was born on December 13, 1936, in Baltimore, MD, to the late Robert R. and Anna K. (Underwood) Porter. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Bonnie A. Porter, and sister Carolyn Fugedy of Rogers, AK. Robert is survived by his three children, Robert “Rob” S. Porter of Newburgh, Daina K. Elmore of Evansville, and Elisa “Lisa” L. (Rodney) Bennett, eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and sister Joan Porter-Benn of Melbourne, FL.

 Robert graduated from Melbourne High and attended the University of Florida, Miami, where he was a member of several clubs and organizations and played as quarterback for the football team. He later played baseball as a pitcher for the Giants farm team. He retired from Faultless Caster as Senior Vice President of Human Resources in 1999. He spent his early career working at Cape Canaveral, FL, and through his career development, lived in Denver, CO; Hof, Bavaria, Germany; Lawrenceburg, KY; Trumbull, CT; Greenwood, MS; and finally settling in Newburgh, IN. 

 Robert enjoyed family time with his wife, children and grandchildren, woodworking, traveling the world and learning about its culture, baseball games, movies, teaching artistic techniques to his children, music, being the neighborhood “handy man”, helping others, social gatherings, and telling jokes. He was a car, space and aircraft enthusiast and enjoyed reading and collecting books.

 Inurnment will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery, 5133 State Rt. 261, Newburgh, IN 47630 on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at 12 p.m. A Celebration of Life will immediately follow the Inurnment Ceremony at 1:00 p.m. at Marida Mediterranean Restaurant, upper floor, 1 East Water St., Newburgh, IN 47630.  

 In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Riley Children’s Foundation or the Evansville War Time Museum.
