Roy Herman Monroe, 69, of Chandler,
Indiana, formerly of Evansville, went
to be with Our Lord, Friday, September 26,
2008, at Deaconess Gateway
Hospital.
He was born in Evansville the son of the
Samuel Monroe and Nellie (Boyd)
Monroe. He and worked for White Swan
Laundry for 10 years and he retired,
after over 20 years of service, with the
Evansville State Hospital. He was
a hard worker with good work ethics. Roy
enjoyed fishing and going to flea
markets, spending time with his family and
his dogs, collecting knives and
having good conversations with his family
and friends.
There will be a special need school started
in Ethiopia in memory of Roy
Herman Monroe.
He was preceded in death by his father,
Samuel Monroe, mother Nellie Boyd
Nelson and step-father, Jack Nelson;
brothers, Bill Monroe, Keith Nelson,
Bob Monroe, and John D. Monroe;
granddaughter, Roseanna K. Farrar; aunts
and uncles, Buster and Anne Monroe, Pat
and Addy Dockery; brother-in-law,
Adam Daum.
Roy is survived by his wife of 27 years,
Carole (Settles) Monroe of
Chandler; four daughters, Morleea Gibson
(Abdi) of Ethiopia, Carleea Monroe
(Joe) of Oswego, NY, Morisa Gibson
(Charlie) of Stewartville, IN, Lisa
Tenbarge of Evansville, four sons, Roy S.
Monroe of Ethiopia, Morris Gibson
(Tammy) of Evansville, Fred Gibson (Olivia)
of Chandler, Donny Cook of
Evansville; two sisters, Goldie Daum of
Evansville, Mildred Willet (Jim) of
Bosier City, LA; thirteen grandchildren,
Robin Gibson, Heaven and Angel
Gibson, Caleb Lantrip, Alexis Morrison,
Abdiselam M. Ibrahim, Ahmed M.
Aden, Zacky M. Aden, Bilal M. Aden,
Charlotte Farrar, Mary Kate Rose
Cleveland, Jeffrey and Kevin Cook.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m.
Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at
Titzer Family Funeral Homes ~ Meyer
Chapel, 100 E. Columbia St. Evansville,
Indiana. Reverend Steven Claspell will
officiate. Burial will be in Park
Lawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.,
Tuesday, September 30, 2008 and
Wednesday 9 a.m. to service time at the
funeral home.
There will be a gathering for family and
friends, after the burial, at
Chandler General Baptist Church, 213 N.
Iowa St. Chandler, Indiana.
