Sam Featherstone, 19, passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at his
home.
Sam was a freshman pre-med major at IUPUI. He was a lifelong member
of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Newburgh where he attended
kindergarten through eighth grade. He graduated from Memorial High
School in 2012 as one of the valedictorians. Sam organized the recent
SamStrong: Search for the Cure event which raised over $200,000 for
pediatric brain cancer research at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Sam was preceded in death by both of his grandfathers, James Blanford,
Sr. and Bill Featherstone. He is survived by his mother, Tammy, father,
Andy, sister, Susan of Newburgh, grandmother Lorrie Blanford of
Evansville, grandmother Betty Featherstone of Dresden, TN, Aunt and
Uncle Cindy and Jim Blanford, Jr. of Evansville, and Aunt and Uncle Amy
and Jerry Ray of Jackson, TN, and cousins.
The family would like to thank Heritage Hospice, especially Sonja, Barb,
and Jaime, for their loving care of Sam and compassion shown to our
family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, January 5, 2013,
at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 625 Frame Rd., Newburgh, Ind.,
Rev. Joseph Ziliak officiating. Burial will follow in the St. John the Baptist
Catholic Cemetery. Friends may visit from 1 to 8 p.m., Friday, January 4,
2013, at Titzer Family Funeral Homes, Simpson Chapel, 510 West
Jennings Street, Newburgh, Ind. Visitation will continue Saturday from 9
a.m. until service time at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Memorial High
School, 1500 Lincoln Ave, Evansville, Ind. 47714, where a scholarship fund
will be established. The Sam Featherstone Memorial Scholarship will be
awarded to a graduating Memorial senior who succeeded in high school
