Shirley J. (Skinner) Higginbotham of Evansville
Shirley J. (Skinner) Higginbotham passed away on Wednesday, February l, 2012
after a three year fight with ovarian cancer.
A "cockeyed optimist" to the end, she was still making plans to continue treatment
and her outlook remained positive throughout her struggle. She was an inspiration to
friends and family with her optimism and "never say die" attitude.
Shirley was a 1953 graduate of Central High School and was active in planning class
reunions. She attended Lockyear Business College and worked for many years at
Faultless Caster before retiring in 1997 from Bristol Myers.
She was an avid bowler and belonged to many Franklin Lanes leagues over the
years. Shirley was a Life Member of the Riverbend Association and enjoyed playing
cards and traveling with friends. Shirley was a member of Bethlehem United Church
of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold (Bud) and Loretta Skinner and her
husband (Alfred) Stanley Higginbotham.
She is survived by her daughter, Malinda (Rex) Wittmer and son, Robert (Amy)
Higginbotham. She also leaves to cherish her memory, 3 grandchildren, Tami
(Jayson) Osborne, Nicole (Andrew) Dealph, and Linsey Higginbotham, and 2 great-
grandchildren, Kyla Osborne and J.D. Osborne. She will be missed by her sister,
Judy Mason, niece, Lisa Mason, and nephew John Troice of Union, New Jersey.
Also surviving are her in-laws, Harold and Emma Weber and brother-in-law, Ed
Higginbotham. In addition to family, Shirley had "the most wonderful friends in the
whole world". She also leaves behind her canine companion, her "Main Man" Pogo.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, February 4, 2012, at Titzer Family
Funeral Homes, Meyer Chapel, 100 E. Columbia St., Evansville, Ind., (812) 424-
9288, Rev. Dr. Joseph Fraccaro will officiate. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Friday and
Saturday 11 a.m. to service time at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date.
The family would like to thank Dr. Tony Stephens and the caring staff at Oncology
Hematology Associates and a very special thank you to Sheila with St Mary's Home
Health Care for going above and beyond in helping us through this very emotional and
difficult time.
