Sylvia Marie Schwartz, a cherished woman known for her intelligence, generosity, and humorous personality, died on September 13, 2024 at the age of 84. Born in 1939, she lived a life filled with laughter, music, and great love for her family.

Sylvia was born in Evansville, Indiana. She grew up in Elberfeld and attended Zion United Church of Christ. Sylvia was the valedictorian of her 1957 high school class and a varsity cheerleader. She played cello in the school orchestra and was the pianist for Glee Club all four years of high school.

Sylvia fell in love with John Schwartz in 1964 and they were married at Zion United Church of Christ. Married for 53 years, they lived in Indiana, New York, and Illinois before moving to their final home of Georgia in 1975. Sylvia served as an executive assistant at several corporations, including IBM, Contel Cellular, First Data, and First Interstate Mortgage. She enjoyed all forms of music, gardening, and entertaining. Sylvia was an excellent cook and talented pianist. She loved animals and was especially fond of her tuxedo cats, cockatiel, dogs, Koi fish, pond frogs, and songbirds. She appreciated funny jokes and made warm connections with people wherever she went.

Sylvia was predeceased by her parents Dorothy Fair and Frederick Goehlich, siblings James Miller, Roland Goehlich, Linda Adams, husband John Schwartz, son Erik Schwartz, and grandson Nicholas Krueger. She is survived by her children Lisa Gunnison, Kristine Walden (Lee), Suzanne Schwartz-King (David), Leah Benthall (Dennis), Steven Schwartz (Jolene), and sisters Laura Chubick (James) and Shelly Quinn. Sylvia has 12 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 26, 2024 at Zion United Church of Christ, 175 Elm Street in Elberfeld, with a memorial service at 11 a.m. followed by interment in Zion UCC Cemetery.
