William Albert Heerdink

William Albert Heerdink, 96, of Evansville, passed away Sunday, July 1, 2018 at Linda E. White Hospice House.  He was born in Mt. Vernon, Ind. on December 6, 1921 to William Anthony and Olivia Teresa (Fromm) Heerdink. 

He was a machinist foreman in 175K department of McDonnell Douglas.  He served in the United States Army receiving a Bronze Star and Medal of Meritorious Service in five major battles in WWII.  With his experience as a mechanic in the army, he continued to enjoy using his mechanic skills benefiting not only himself, but friends and family.

Bill was a strong supporter of the Tri-State Catholic Spanish speaking radio station founded by his brother, Fr. Eugene Heerdink.  He was a life member of the VFW Post #1114.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Pauline (Rye) Heerdink; his brother, Fr. Eugene Heerdink.

He is survived by his sister, Mary (Heerdink) Woods of Washington, Ind.; daughter, Joyce (Utley) VanVorst of Evansville; five grandchildren, Joni Palmer (Ted), Terri VanVorst Buttram, John C. VanVorst (Kim), Robin VanVorst, and Mike  Busing (Angie); seven great-grandchildren, Kara Herrman, Jennifer Harris (Brenton), Lori Buttram, John W. VanVorst (Sarah), Jeff VanVorst (Kendrea), Michael Busing, and Hannah VanVorst; three great-great grandchildren; Kaden Chang, Emily Chang, and Machenzie Harris.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, July 6, 2018 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, 418 N. Wabash Ave. Evansville, Ind. Rev. Fr. John G. Brosmer will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with full Military Graveside services. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 5, 2018 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at Titzer Family Funeral Homes ~ Miller & Miller Colonial Chapel, 100 E. Columbia St. Evansville (812) 424-9274.  Additional visitation will be Friday 12 p.m. to service time at the church.
