William "Bill" Edward Harris, 80, was born August 7, 1938 in Hatfield, IN to the late John "Jay" and Dorothy (Fulks) Harris.
Bill passed away Friday, March 8, 2019 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Bill retired from Whirlpool in 1998 after 40 years working as manager of the computer department and payroll. After retirement, he worked for PTI as a driver. Bill was known to never meet a stranger. He was an avid sports fan, rooting for the St. Louis Cardinals and IU Hoosiers. In high school, Bill was a standout baseball and basketball player and was scouted by the major leagues as a pitcher. Bill was in the Marine Reserves, served as past president of Elberfeld town board, member of Kiwanis and Zion UCC where he served as president of the church board and superintendent of Sunday school.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jack and Jerry; grandchildren, Derek Harris and Ashley Barnett.
Bill is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joyce (Miles) Harris; children, Steven Harris (girlfriend, Lee East), Deann Smith (Tom), Erika Powers (John); brothers, Kenneth Harris (Wanda) and David Harris (Dianna); sisters-in-law, Lily Harris, Mary Ann Harris and Betty Allen; brother-in-law, Jerry Miles; 9 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Maqbool Ahmed and staff, Tonya Garrett, Deaconess Gateway, and Linda E. White Hospice staff for their compassion and respect.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at Zion UCC, 165 Elm St., Elberfeld, IN. Burial will follow in Zion Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m., Monday at Titzer Family Funeral Homes, Volkman Chapel, 2nd & Elm Sts., Elberfeld, IN (812) 983-4211. And 9 a.m. to service time Tuesday at the church.
